OUR STORY MAKE HISTORY

About Us

The Yiddish word “shtetl” describes the close knit Jewish communities in Eastern Europe during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Many lived in poverty and food was scarce but communities would come together on Shabbat, the day of rest, to ensure that everyone had a meal. While potatoes, cabbage, onions and beets made up the daily diet, on Friday nights, luxuries such as fish, chicken, butter and bread would appear on the table.

At SHTETL, we draw inspiration from the foundational elements of shtetl cooking and combine Sepphardic and Ashkenazi flavors into our various dishes, incorporating fresh vegetables, legumes, tubers, pickled fish, tender meats, and fresh breads. Flavorful sesame, olive oil, garlic, and fresh Mediterranean spices add depth to our signature plates.

SHTETL turns the warmth and community of Friday night into an everyday experience, extending familiar flavors into new combinations that open your eyes and mouth to the history of European Jewry. Visit us for your next dinner or to book a special event.  Let’s celebrate your story—together.
